Cub Scouts
Cub Scouts are boys and girls aged between 8 and 11 years. Cub Scouts learn new skills, take part in new adventures, help other people and play games. Our cub scouts learn to become more independent, to take responsibility for their own actions and to play and work harmoniously with their peers. For more information on becoming a cub scout you can contact [email protected]
Scouts
Scouts are boys and girls aged between 10.5 and 15 years. Scouts enjoy a wide variety of activities - more adventurous than cub scouts, and with a greater emphasis on self-direction. Scouts enjoy learning new skills, playing games and the company of their peers in a friendly environment. For more information on becoming a scout you can contact scouts@cabaritamortlake.com
eWhat is Scouting at Cabo?
When adults step back, kids step up...
We believe that if you want your children to grow up to be responsible, self-reliant, and capable people, you need to let them take risks, play freely, and sometimes get into situations that are new and exciting. Scouts is youth led, adult supported.
Children need to constantly push their physical boundaries - that is how they acquire physical and emotional skills, and how their brains wire up to feel safe, strong and competent in any environment.
When society began overprotecting kids in the 90s, that happened for several reasons - car-centric neighbourhoods, fewer mutligenerational households to keep tabs on neighbourhood kids, and a few high-profile crimes that made every parent fearful.
We have lost the free-play neighbourhoods that Gen X and older generations enjoyed, and we overschedule kids' lives with travel, sport and other organised, adult-led activities focused around academic and physical skills. Yet kids *need* free play to develop properly, and they need physical risks, improvisation, and exploration with other kids.
