1st Cabarita Mortlake has started the year in a big way - so far Scouts have hiked through Royal National Park, Cubs have had a playground to playground bike hike from Bicentennial Park to Blaxland Riverside reserve and the whole group is participating in Clean Up Australia Day. Lots more activities are planned including camps, pack holidays, bushwalks and fun days with other groups. Our scouts are also getting ready for Jamboree.
Thanks to all the fantastic families of 1st Cabarita Mortlake for contributing to a fabulous family camp. Camp Windeyer was our venue and we all had a great time making the most of its creek side location. Congrats to DY for leading us on a beautiful Grey Wolf Walk from Crosslands towards the Rocky Fall Rapids.
The cubs had a great day out at the Valley Heights Locomotive Depot. We got to ride a steam tram and had a guided tour of the Depot (thanks Mr Dixon!) - it was interesting seeing the different trains from different eras. We then had a picnic lunch in Fairy Dell at Springwood and walked to Lawson's Lookout, trying to spot various trees, landmarks and fauna on the way. Thanks to all the cubs and parents for making this a great day out!
Cubs had a great time exploring the Universe from the ground of Macquarie University. We followed this up with "Space Night" where the cubs showed how expanding gas can propel a rocket, discovered some natural occurrences in Space, built Space Stations and made pinhole planetariums.
Thanks to all the parent helpers who helped launch our cubs into the wider Univers Our team of cub and scouts joined with a scout from 1st Sefton to have a weekend of fun at Thrills and Skills. Though small in number our team showed a lot of teamwork and came home with 1 Gold and 2 Bronze trophies. Some great scout skills were on display with flagpole building and flag hoisting, bridge building and navigation. Well done, team.
We had a fantastic camp at Kariong on the Central Coast. Thank you to all the fabulous cubs, parents and (of course) Akela for making it such a fun time for everyone.
We found fungi and bird's nest, found out how cold the water is in early winter when you decide to swim in a swimming hole and showed amazing prowess with compass trails and trail signs. Great work by all our new cubs who showed such enthusiasm and managed themselves and their gear so well. Can't wait for the next one! Well done Cabo cubs and scouts - at least 19 bags of rubbish removed from the Yaralla foreshore. Our group showed in a very practical way that a Scout Cares for the Environment.
Cubs are back with a vengeance with lots of cubs having great fun with water fights, secret codes and tying themselves up in knots! We also had fun at Founder's Day in Bicentennial Park, where Iain was presented with the Grey Wolf award - Cabarita-Mortlake's first Grey Wolf.
Iain got his award after completing four Level 2 badges (plus a few extra!), his World Conservation Badge, leading a bushwalk and participating in lots of cub activities. He also made a game for the pack. Our Scouts are back and have attempted to put out a fire with a scout-made ballista and taken the command "get lost" and found themselves again. They are getting ready for lots of fun and adventure with Tabo and Sticky. Cubs and scouts are back this Friday 4 February at 1st Cabarita Mortlake. We are looking forward to a fun-filled year. Things got off to a great start for the Cubs, Leader and Parent Helpers at Cuboree - a great time was had by all and the cubs were a real credit to themselves.
We have hikes, games, outings, camps and heaps more to look forward to. Come and be prepared for new adventures in 2011! Family camp was a great success with lots of families having a brilliant time. Scouts showed their canoeing prowess and many cubs earnt their Level 1 canoeing badge. Cubs explored the Great North Walk by land as Iain led his Grey Wolf Walk while the scouts explored Berowra Creek on land and water. Thanks to everyone for making this a great weekend.
